According to the National Association of Realtors, summer is the busiest season for real estate, with more than 50% of homes sold during the summer months! Nicer weather makes it easier for buyers to go on home tours, and the summer breaks allows families with children to relocate before the start of a new school year. And this year, the housing market is heating up with the weather once gain.
For many homeowners, that means summer is an ideal time to sell their home. Demand is high as it is, with new household formations, population growth, and low-interest rates continuing to fuel demand. Demand increases even more during the summer, which means you’re home is likely to sell faster and for more.
What’s more, the housing market is much recovered from the housing market crash of 2008. Home prices are up and millions of homeowners have regained equity. So even if you were hit hard by the market crash, chances are you’re in a better position today.
Finally, if you’re considering selling, you can afford more home now than you’ll be able to afford later. Today mortgage rates are low. For most of 2016, interest rates were below 4% (near record lows). However, as the year progresses, mortgage rates are expected to rise to around 4.5%. Home prices will continue to increase as well. So as the year goes on, you’ll be able to afford less home for the same amount of money.
I have a report entitled, “Here Comes the Busiest Season in Real Estate,” that details the changes in the market and why now might be the perfect time to sell.
